Catholics the world over, and few other Christian denominations, held services on this day with priests and other lay leaders spreading ash on the forehead of people attending the services, reminding them of a few things;
1. Lenten season is a time of reflection, where it is open to repentance and alms giving;
2. Lenten season is a time of deep discernment in understanding one's reality in the light of Christ and a call to conversion; and
3. Lenten season is a time that calls human beings to humility by reminding us, in the gesture of spreading ashes on the foreheads, that unto dust we come and to dust we shall return.
I sincerely believe if all human beings take heed of the third reminder mentioned above, regardless of religion, race, gender and so forth, it will always call us to be humble and further lead us to respect and protect mother Earth for from her, we have our being and to her belly we shall one day return.
Wishing everyone a blessed Lenten season.Home | Top
