Friday evening proved lucky for Labasa fans as the Babasiga Lions roar dampened the spirits of Blues fans at Churchill Park.

The Lions beat a star-studded, or shall I say a close to strength, Fiji team in their own back yard.

Antonio Tuivuna proved critics wrong as he led the Lions to their third CVC series title win after the last win in 2008.

Master Bal Sanju Reddy mastered the Lions to a wonderful victory.

Despite playing with nine players, I commend the Lions, especially Makoe, Gonerau, Dreloa, Lolaivalu, evergreen Dan and Fiji's number 1 goalie Mateisuva, for leading by example and holding on to the slender lead.

Two red cards to the visitors but the Lions played their hearts out and came out firing with the CVC trophy.

The win was special to veteran Dan Waqa, a former Blues rep and one who has been consistent with his performance.

Mateisuva's performance means that he deserves a place in the national team and I wish that Mr Gamel was present to see the vibrant saves that Akuila made.

I also commend Labasa Football Association executives, led by President Rayaz and VP Varun, for binding the team and giving Labasa fans a moment of madness and time to celebrate after the 2016 IDC win.

Blues mentor Master Kamal Swamy had blamed the bumpy surface at Subrail Park for the lacklustre affair in the first leg but Churchill Park has a standard ground and on that ground the Lions wrested the cup from the defending champs.

Labasa proved that you don't need big names in your squad but pride for the district jersey.

The CVC win means a lot to every Labasa fan and I hope that the fans will savour this moment and support the team, whether they win or lose.

Some of us are bad losers and we vent our frustrations on social media when our boys lose and only come out showing our support when the team wins.

That should not be the case. Our boys have made a brilliant start to the 2018 season and they need every ounce of support as the season progresses.

I also plead with Labasa Football Association to immediately appoint Master Bal Sanju as the coach of Labasa as Bal has proved that he's the best.

Wananavu and vinaka vakalevu Lions!
