Happy lot

I GOT a message on Facebook from an acquaintance about my letters questioning how Fiji had been rated the happiest country in the world.

The chap said that in Fiji if you were to ask someone, "Io, vacava tiko?" (How's things?)

The usual reply will be, "Io, set tu." (It's OK.)

No matter what the situation is like, most people will not say how badly things are going on in their lives.

Even the people still living in tents have gotten used to it, until you make the question political.

And you know how to politicise the question?

Here goes — "So, hasn't the Government done anything for you to get a new home?"

But I rest my case.

Then the chap added that the team doing the survey could have seen the smiling faces of the workers who have been locked out and said: "Now there is a happy lot!

"Nah?"
