All for Fiji

IT pleased my heart to read that Crusaders wonderboy, speed merchant and Fijian "darling" Jone Macilai has raised his hands to play for his beloved Fiji.

I say relief indeed as we approach the second leg of the WRSS.

Speed has been an area that has haunted Fiji and if FRU can convince Macilai to wear the 7s jumper, then Macilai has a lot of gas to burn and if he teams up with the likes of Eroni Sau, Nasilasila, Tuwai, Stewart and Samu Bale then we have a lethal backline come Sydney and Hamilton.

In 2000, the Crusaders released their ace winger Marika Vunibaka and Fiji terrorised the All Blacks winning the title at the Cake Tin.

My 2018 wish is to see Macilai burning the Sydney and Hamilton turf.

Macilai has had an impressive season with the Crusaders, which he joined in 2015, but a broken arm in a pre-season game meant his debut came later than expected.

Macilai learned his trade playing sevens rugby in Fiji and has played for Red Rock so he has 7s experience.

The Crusader has real explosive speed, good finishing and has scored some really impressive tries for the eight-time champions.

I am pleading with FRU and our coach Baber to present Macilai the opportunity to show his ability in the Fiji 7s team jersey this season.

I know it wouldn't take too much time persuading Macilai to don the 7s jumper.

All the best Macilai in your bid to wear the Fijian jumper and congratulations on the arrival of your bundle of joy.
