Act of sacrilege

Selwa Nandan, Lautoka | Saturday, December 23, 2017
THE sacrilege of the Hindu temple at Votualevu in Nadi cannot be taken lightly but should be condemned in the strongest terms by all religious bodies in Fiji.

That obscenities were scribbled on the walls, paint smeared on the idols and the temple has been repeatedly vandalised clearly demonstrates the motives of the perpetrators.

We often tend to overlook the gravity of such acts and its repercussions.

The impact of such unprovoked insult cannot be ignored.

The question that needs to be answered is why only certain holy places are usually desecrated despite our Constitution guaranteeing the freedom of religion to all the citizens of this country.

Therefore, I believe it is a sign of disrespect for the Constitution.

I urge the Commissioner of Police to take swift action to bring these thugs to justice.
