Parking spaces

I appreciate all the work that is done to improve our roads and bridges to make our roads safe for our road users.

There is an issue though that vehicle owners consistently face — parking spaces in our towns and cities.

With the growing number of vehicles in the country, there is a need for more parking spaces.

More parking space means easier access to the towns or cities and increased activity.

A study in the US estimates there are seven parking spaces for every vehicle.

I am sure our local municipalities will have information on the number of vehicles that pass through their towns and for each vehicle how many parking spaces are available.

Sometimes it is impossible to find parking and you end up making more than one round to find a parking space during peak hours.

Some of us tend to wait in the middle of the road for an available space, which only worsens the issue.

With Christmas and New Year around the corner, there's no escaping this predicament.

Here are some suggestions to circumvent this issue and I'm sure readers will have more:

* Get into town during off peak hours. That's early in the morning or very late in the evening;

* Take a public transport;

* If you have your family car, have someone drop you off and call when you're done;

* Visit complexes that have huge parking spaces and is a one stop shop. Again timing is everything; and,

* Park on the outskirts of towns or cities and enjoy the long walk into town (in this weather I'm sure that's a bad idea).

There's a second predicament that I forgot to mention is that we all won't escape this season, traffic congestion.

Happy shopping and if you find that parking space, congratulations!
