Capital of Israel

I was surprised that Germany's Angela Merkel did not make a stand to support Israel in their bid to make Jerusalem their capital (FT 15/12).

She comes from a Christian party and Germany in this day and age recognises a Sunday ban — very brave.

The European Union rejected this Jerusalem move. United Nations voted recently on this too. The Jerusalem Post showed that out of 193 UN member states, only six supported Israel — US, Canada, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Israel.

I take my hat off to these nations. Israel sure knows who their true friends are. Nine former friends decided to sit on the fence (abstained) and 178 voted against Israel.

Fiji was in the majority. Maybe this is in keeping with our secular state status (Section 4, 2013 Constitution of The Republic of Fiji).

Funny though, I was more disappointed with Germany not making a stand for Israel than Fiji's lack of enthusiasm.
