Long way to go

Ba, Lautoka and Rewa have started the 2017 IDC on a high.

The trio won their opening pool games handsomely.

This puts their opponents in the hot seat. But the tournament is still a long way to go.

However, Tavua making a return to the super premier caused a major upset by holding a star-studded Nadi side to a nil-all draw. As the competition progresses, more interesting results will emerge.

I believe FFA would be impressed with the attendance on the opening day. Looking at day one coverage on FBC TV, I could see a large crowd sitting on the new embankment.

I think the embankment accommodates bigger crowd than the pavilion replaced at the park.

This means a better income for all concerned. Results so far indicate more fans are coming to the tournament until it ends on Sunday.

The IDC undoubtedly attracts more and more soccer enthusiasts every year. I don't think you can count out the teams that drew or lost their first games. I think the tournament is still wide open and it is too early to predict anything.

If the city boys continue on their present winning path, organisers can expect a good crowd throughout the tournament.

Let's hope our coach is able to pick a good Fiji team when IDC ends. I wish all teams taking part all the best.

Win or lose, most important is your participation and support for the sport.

To the spectators enjoy the game and your grog and palau. Happy IDC to all!
