Noted that SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka has given a directive to party supporters overseas not to stage any protest against PM Voreqe Bainimarama when he is on national duties abroad (FT 09/10/17).
I believe the directive will cause some regret and dismay among members of the Fijian Indigenous Peoples Foundation, Democracy for Fiji Movement and Fiji Native Tribal Congress. But on the positive side, I believe the move signals a change of mind-set coming from one who in 1987 staged the first Fiji military coup.
This change is a welcome move. I believe while there may be members of SODELPA still nursing race- based politics, Mr Rabuka is giving the indication that under his guide SODELPA is moving to embrace multiracialism. Despite our differences, we are people of Fiji — Fijians.
Fiji citizens wherever they are living around the world to have their say on what goes on within Fiji and the right to vote in elections but certainly not to harp on race-based politics which for good reasons we have left behind.Home | Top
