Our rising Drua

Hats off to the Fiji Airways Drua side for putting aside the earlier loss to Brisbane City and for coming out firing to beat Melbourne Rising in their own back yard.

Our boys rose from defeat and played as a solid unit to conquer the uphill battle. It was the valiant effort of our forwards, who combined with our skilful backline to score sweet tries.

With such a superb performance and marvellous delivery, the likes of Daveta, Stewart, Saqiwa, Vasiteri and Nacebe, would have impressed Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber for a spot in the 7s training squad. Thanks to Sky Fiji, I was able to watch the game in the comfort of my sitting room and I was full of praise for our boys. The Drua side was a polished outfit thanks to Seruvakula.

Our boys relished under pressure and were spot on with their passes and tackles putting the opposition under immense pressure. It was a grand victory and the good part was that we did not have to play catch up rugby.

This week's match against NSW Country Eagles should be another exciting match and with the home support we could be in for another upset. Our players are gaining confidence and improvements have been seen in their performance.

I am expecting a baptism of fire when our boys face the victors at Lawaqa Park. My best wishes and a big vinaka vakalevu to the players and team management as I look forward to this Saturday's encounter against NSW Eagles!
