Advertising Vijay Singh as a super star to be playing at the Fiji International tournament is no longer relevant.
Singh is now a former super star after winning three major titles — 1998 PGA Championship, 2000 Masters Tournament and the 2004 PGA Championship, with more over 60 professional wins after turning Pro in 1982. Known as the big Fijian, Singh was number one in the official World Golf Ranking for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005.
He was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2005, but deferred his induction until 2006. He also won the FedEx Cup in 2008.
Playing as an amateur and representing Fiji on many occasions, Singh's colourful professional golfing career has earned him many millions of dollars through his sheer determination and hard work.
Singh is now ranked 267 and will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Natadola Bay Championships Golf Course from the August 17-20. Hopefully, he does notch his maiden win at the layout he designed. Personally, my million dollar question is — what has he positively done for golf in Fiji apart from flying the national banner and designing the Natadola Golf Course, and at what cost, if any? Finally, if he has been paid any appearance fee for participating in the Fiji International Tournament.Home | Top
