Sugar industry

IT is responsible and good of our Government and the Sugar Ministry to afford our Western Division's respective sugarcane farming sectors each a cane harvester.

It really does make a lot of difference to farmers in terms of convenience, less time consuming, is cost effective and increases productivity.

Every sector has now received one each and my Yako farming sector was the first to receive one, which was officiated by Minister for Economy Aiyaz Saiyed-Khaiyum and it brought many smiles to these hardworking Fijians.

The LTA and the FSC might want to go a step further and ask the sugarcane truck operators to cover the top of the trucks to avoid cane falling off the overloaded trucks, making it unsafe for road users.

The cane harvesters are a great addition and assistance for our farmers because the sugarcane industry is critically vital to our country and its economy, but I have yet to hear a good word from NFP's Biman Prasad, FLP's and National Farmers Union general secretary Mahendra Chaudhry with their SODELPA opposition brothers who all seem to champion our sugarcane farmers' plight, but have failed to acknowledge the good deed by our Government.

It is not wrong and does not hurt to acknowledge the truth.
