Mana of Soso

Sikeli Qounadovu's excellent article on The mana of Soso last Sunday reminded me of the time the people of Naceva built possibly the last and largest war canoe in 1921.

It was to be given and presented to the Roko and people of Macuata. The story was reported in The Fiji Times.

On its first voyage, it was halfway between Soso and Suva when they encountered heavy sea and lost their rudder and mast.

All 40 crew were lucky to escape with their lives. One wonders if the loss of mana is still affecting their lives.
