Marine protected

I read with interest the article on The Fiji Times 06/06 titled Chiefs declare Rewa River marine protected, and I must admit that the initiatives taken by Ro Teimumu Kepa and the chiefs of Rewa is a good example of people who care for the wellbeing of our environment and beings that exist within.

What I admire the most about their approach is that it does not concentrate only on saving the endangered scalloped hammerhead sharks, by declaring Rewa River as marine protected, however, they also dedicated four days this week for a clean-up campaign and most all the vanua of Rewa to plant 1000 trees to create environmental awareness for its people.

I wish the people of Rewa well in their endeavour and I hope chiefs of other provinces would follow suit in holding hands to practically do things together to protect our environment, our resources and all that it contains, people included.
